Location

La Villa de la Plage, a charming guest house, is ideally situated on the west coast of Reunion Island in the village of La Saline Les Bains and will be your perfect starting point to visit the island. You can go for a walk in the morning and be back by mid-afternoon with time for a deserved rest by the lagoon or the pool. You are 30 mins from Saint Pierre and La Possession, an hour from the Maido and the window to Les Makes and an hour and a half from Cilaos and the volcano or the unspoiles south.... Close to the guest house, you will find several restaurants, accessible on foot ( 5 to 10 mins ) for all tastes : gourmet restaurants, local, thaï, italian cuisine ; beach restaurants, pizza trucks… Amenities : In the village of la La Saline, a 10 min walk away: medical centre, pharmacy, post office, mini market, bakery, news agents, hairdresser. A little further, 15 mins on foot: a supermarket and a fruit and vegetable market. The village of Saint Gilles and its pleasure port is 10 mins drive away or a 30 minute cycle. And the famous beach of Boucan Canot is a 15 minute drive away.

Water sports and activities

The lagoon of La Saline-les-Bains allows you to observe in complete safety the underwater wildlife with a mask and snorkel. What is more, the lagoon is deep enough to swim in. You can go up and down it in kayaks or on paddle-boards to your pleasure. For the more athletic types, during the southern winter, the beach of Trou d'Eau is a well-known kite-surfing spot. From the port of Saint Gilles, you can engage in the pleasure of scuba diving, deep sea fishing, jet skiing, water skiing, and a boat excursion at sunset to see dolphins and whales. Surfing is possible at the protected beaches of Boucan Canot and Roches Noires. Saint Leu offers exquisite underwater diving sites. Open air activities

Activities in the heart of nature are abundant in Reunion Island, close to La Villa de la Page you will be spoilt for choice. Departing from Saint Gilles, you can choose from a mountain bike ride from Le Maido down to Saint Gilles, a helicopter or microlight flight over the island, a horse ride or walk in the savannah, golf, canyonning, a swim in natural pools, a parachute jump out of a helicopter... St Leu is the world-renowned spot for paragliding. An introductory course flight over the forest and the lagoon is an unforgettable experience. Saint Paul offers you a natural reserve, l'Etang Saint Paul, with its unique wildlife. Easy hikes or longer ones will take you to Bassin Vital, to the Savannah od Cap Lahoussaye and to Bernica's waterfall. The forest in the heights of the west coast is ideal for a picnic in cool temperatures among the tamarind trees, a walk with a breathtaking view of the Mafate mountain range. And for adventurers : quad biking, summer tobogganing, accrobranch (the Adventure Forest), hikes to Le Grand Bénare, Mafate... Just a half hour drive away, l'Entre-Deux, a magnificent little creole village, is the starting point for nice hikes along the river of Bras de la Plaine. Cultural visits

Numerous sites to deiscover our heritage, culture and history, are not to be missed : In St Gilles: the aquarium and the garden of Eden ( ethnobotanical garden) and the craft village of Eperon. In the the heights of Saint Gilles (15 mins by car) : the Villèle museum, the former sugar plantation with its beautiful creole house and pointed chapel. In St Paul : la Villa Rivière, the old 18th century creole residence, can be visited from monday to Saturday on reservation; the marine cemetery; the site of the cave of the first Frenchmen; the tamoul temple; the natural reserve of l'Etang de St Paul ( guided visits to discover the fauna and flora), the coffee plantation. In St Leu (a 10 minute drive): you can learn all about sea turtles at Kélonia, visit the salt museum and the Stella museum, the former sugar factory, as well as the botanical garden of Reunion Island around a very beautiful creole residence. A craft market is open all week. Many street and craft markets where you can find souvenirs to take home of your trip: St Gilles on Wednesdays; St Paul on Fridays; St Leu on Saturdays ; L’Ermitage on Sunday mornings.
